so i’ve started to let people know that i’m writing a book. and one of the questions i’m getting is why write one? why go through that process, why take the time to write it, why spend the money to have it edited/published/printed – and i want to answer it.
the first is legacy. once you have a book in place, that book should remain around for a long time. you die once when you die physically. you die a second time the last time your name is said. i dont want my name to ever die. i don’t want my grandfather’s name to ever die. i don’t want my son’s name to ever die.
there’s a lot of power in legacy. what you leave behind for the next generation. there’s a lot of power in raising your child knowing that while you can’t promise their always going to have everything, and you can’t promise they’re always going to make the right decisions – you can take as many steps as you possibly can.
i set up an amazon account the other day and got the isbn for my book and put up the initial listing on amazon. there aren’t any pictures, you can’t buy it yet so no reason to go and look for it, but I took my phone out to the living room with the link pulled up and even though ossie is only 1, i showed it to him and went look, your dad is going to be an author. that means something.
i also wanted to write a book because in my head there’s always a lot of thoughts, that are based on my experiences, my knowledge, what i’ve been through, all the way from growing up, selling drugs, being who I am, starting a business, running a business – and i want to share that knowledge. i dont want to keep it all bottled up inside. i mean if no one ever shared the knowledge they have learned, where would the world be at?
we wouldn’t have text books, we wouldn’t have business books, we wouldn’t be anywhere close to where we are now. one of the greatest inventions in the history of man was the printing press. it allowed mass printing of not only books – but knowledge. stories that had been passed down by memory or hand writing were all of a sudden able to be mass produced and taken around the world.
my book is about excuses. about how anytime we want to do something that’s worth anything, anytime we want to take a step towards our goals, our dreams, whether that’s starting a business – an amazon fba business, a photography business, a brick and mortar store, anything – or even starting a youtube channel, buying a house, travelling more – their all goals and dreams. and when we want to take a step, all our brain does due to our exposure, our upbringing is try and tell us no. try and tell us why we aren’t going to be able to do it. and that’s what i strongly dislike.
i believe that anyone, anywhere, with any background can do what they want to – given the power of the internet. we just have to take the first step. we can’t complain, we can’t make up excuses about how we don’t know enough, or don’t have the background, or don’t have the money – it’s all out there, and we have to take it. we have to seize it. that’s what my book is about.
there is always going to be risk. there are always going to be hard decisions.
but for some reason, we make the DECISION to start something way, way bigger than actually starting something. all you have to do is take the first step. all you have to do is launch.
you don’t have to worry about failing, you don’t have to worry about falling until you’re on your way up. so why not launch THEN build?

Great insight into a great father and husband. Congratulations on the book Taylor. Your grandfather would be very proud of what you are achieving in your life.
